Mary Mead: Milk Mountain

About her work. In my work in sculpture and printmaking, my ideas are grounded in the associative powers that I find in an object or image. I collect observations and memories of objects that are mostly simple forms but those which have universal themes. These are filtered through my own experience. The objects familiarity helps ground the observations to the viewer, which might otherwise seem fragmented. I often manipulate the scale of an object or an image to subvert a comfortable or known perception. A core vocabulary of forms, sometimes only in fragments has emerged and retreated over the years each time altered by the changing environment and the deepening of my own experience.
